Bead Soup Blog Party Celebration!


Welcome. In case you don't know me, I'm Marcy Lamberson a flamework glass  bead maker and instructor.  I was paired up with Melissa Clarke, who who does wonderful bead embroidery....lots of seed beads.  So we are pretty different in styles, but have really enjoyed getting to know each other.

Melissa sent me a variety of beads and I only used two in this piece.  I anguished over the selection and knew that the focal is the most important part.  But being a beadmaker instead of a seasoned jewelry maker, I went back to my roots and made lampwork companion beads for her pink and  black dyed agate focal.  Yep, those smaller ones are all glass.  I've helped out friends before when they couldn't match a stone, so I decided to take that skill to make a necklace that I wanted to wear.

Now my remaining goodies will be another piece or two of jewelry when I have a little more time.  I'm looking forward to that.  Here is a photo of my huge selection of beads for future jewelry.  I'll post photos when I make those.

    I'm so glad we were partners. I had so much fun using your beads to make my piece. And I already have plans drawn up for the other pieces that I didn't use this time.

    I LOVE that purple agate focal (I am a freak for purple jewelry), and I'm not sure I'll believe those companion beads are glass unless I can touch 'em! What an amazing talent you have at the torch! My lampwor beads look like blobs. Round blob, but blobs just the same. I'll leave the lampwork to you guys!

    That necklace is amazing! And I haven't forgotten about the manatees. I'll be in touch.

    oh nice! I would have saved myself some time if I'd just read your words, I kept going back and forth with the photos trying to figure out if it was glass or stone!!! Fantastic, you managed a beautiful, modern and romantic necklace there - and great job imitating the agate, you almost had me!

    I'm so glad that they are close enough that you all need to look twice. Michi, I very carefully used tools to make them an even thin-ness. They aren't quite as smooth as I'd like and if I had a flat lap, they'd be just right.

    How cool. I always admire lampwork. I tried working with a torch once and we didn't get along. Those are gorgeous glass pieces to go with your soup focal. And the rest of your beads look like they'll be great to work with. Love your first piece.

    Such Talent.. I have to admit I look at the pictures and hardly read. Saves my eyes from eye strain/headaches. But I would of missed out knowing that you had actually made the smaller pieces to match the Agate focal. Soup-er cool.
