Have You Seen These Pitaya Fruit?

These are pretty cool looking fruits that I saw on a Tony Bourdain tv show.  I had to quickly write down the name so I could find some photos of this funky item.  Have any of you seen or tasted it?

I think it has been called "dragon fruit" in other countries.  Don't you think they would make cool beads too?  I'm going to see where they take me....

Meanwhile, it might just be time for a nap.  I love a day off...

  1. Hi Marcy, I have in fact seen and tasted these beautiful fruits at a Farmer's Market at Redondo Beach in LA. I was visiting my sister there. It was really good too, although it looked pretty strange right before you took a bite. I for one am looking forward to seeing where you go with this inspiration. I have been oggling the pods that form on one of the cactus plants that is all over our neighborhood and in our backyard. I walk my dogs every morning and wonder if I brought my clippers would anyone get angry at me. LOL!!!

  4. I have eaten this fruit in Mexico. The flavor is very unique and delicious. In the area where I am from, in Mexico, the cactus that produces pitayas grows wild and tall. A long stick made out of a bamboo type of material was used to harvest the fruit.
